▬ A person who lost Polish citizenship before January 1, 1999, under specific circumstances, may apply for its restoration: ▬
Based on the Polish Citizenship Act (February 15, 1962), Polish citizenship was lost through voluntary renunciation.
Based on the Polish Citizenship Act (January 8, 1951), the person acquired the citizenship of another country after obtaining permission from the Polish authorities to change their citizenship.
Based on the Polish Citizenship Act (January 8, 1951), a Polish citizen residing abroad was deprived of Polish citizenship due to:
✓ Violating the duty of loyalty to the Polish State;
✓ Acting against the interests of the People's Republic of Poland;
✓ Illegally leaving Polish territory after May 9, 1945;
✓ Failing to return to Poland despite being summoned by the authorities;
✓ Avoiding military service;
✓ Being convicted of a crime in a foreign country or being a repeat offender.
A positively reviewed application concludes the procedure, and the minister responsible for internal affairs issues an administrative decision confirming the restoration of Polish citizenship.
Based on the Act on Citizenship of the Polish State (January 20, 1920), Polish citizenship was lost due to:
✓ Acquiring the citizenship of another country;
✓ Holding a public office in a foreign country;
✓ Serving in the military of another country without the approval of the relevant Polish government authority.

In the case of a negative decision, the applicant may submit a request for reconsideration within 14 days, leading to a re-evaluation of the case by the minister responsible for internal affairs.
To initiate the process of restoring Polish citizenship, the applicant must submit the following documents:
✓ A document confirming the applicant’s identity and citizenship;
✓ A civil status record;
✓ Photographs.
